The purpose of this role is to assist library staff to support younger children with a range of events and activities. We require junior volunteers to be a minimum of 14 years old.

Your time commitment will be:

  • volunteer hours will vary depending on your availability and the events/activities being delivered in your local library

Your involvement will be:

  • helping at library events and activities
  • being a Reading Buddy
  • planning games and carrying out activities with young children
  • showing children that reading is fun and rewarding

Your opportunity is:

  • improving your communication skills and confidence
  • gaining training and experience which may help you to gain employment in the future
  • gaining valuable experience to put on your CV or college/university application
  • inspiring others and putting your skills to good use
  • meeting new people and be part of a team
  • learning the basics of organisational and planning skills
  • a chance to develop your leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • the joy of helping younger children have fun reading

Your training will include:

  • a comprehensive induction with on-going training and support

The skills we are looking for are:

  • being reliable, creative, kind and love reading books
  • having some computer knowledge
  • enjoying spending time with younger children
