Located in Campbeltown, the Museum was founded in 1898 and tells the story of Kintyre through its collections of archaeology, fine art, natural sciences and social history.  The Museum cares for many works of art and is home to the famous Linda McCartney Memorial Garden. We require museum volunteers to be a minimum of 16 years old.

Your time commitment will be:

  • committing to assisting in the Museum one morning or afternoon a week, ideally for a period of six months or more
  • agreeing with LiveArgyll a regular time and day for you to volunteer to suit your current commitments

Your involvement will be:

  • interacting and greeting visitors, answering their queries, and being well informed of all facilities, events and exhibitions taking place in the museum
  • assisting with the work with the collection, cataloguing and labelling objects and ensuring they are appropriately stored
  • assisting with display preparation and research
  • assisting with conservation housekeeping, including taking regular temperature and humidity levels, and may be involved in some basic maintenance tasks e.g. checking pest traps, painting

Your training will include:

  • a comprehensive induction with ongoing training and support will be provided
  • training on the specific tasks that you are undertaking

The skills we are looking for are:

  • good literacy skills and a genuine interest in Museums, local history and heritage
  • open, warm and friendly communications skills
  • reliable and responsible, commitment to volunteering in the service
  • organisational skills with a good eye for detail
  • having the physical ability to fulfil the role, lifting and moving boxes
