Tech Buddy
Tech Buddies will share IT skills by helping LiveArgyll library customers who struggle to use computers or the internet to gain IT knowledge and skills. You don’t have to be an expert, just be able to show people how to use a computer on a day-to-day basis (for example, internet shopping, accessing email, using Microsoft word etc.). The support you provide will be on a one to one basis, although there may also be opportunities to lead IT support sessions for small groups. We require tech buddies to be a minimum of 16 years old.
Your time commitment will be:
- Variable to meet the demand of the service and your availability
Your involvement will be:
- providing help and support for LiveArgyll Library customers in using computers and the internet according to their individual needs
- helping develop the skills and self-confidence of computer users so that they can go on to help themselves
- offering a flexible and responsive assistance to Library users, alongside library staff
- assisting customers through your knowledge to safely use the internet, whilst promoting LiveArgyll Library and other partner organisation’s online services

Your training will include:
- a comprehensive induction with on-going training and support
The skills we are looking for are:
- a genuine interest in ICT and helping people to increase their skills and confidence
- knowledge of computer applications (word, internet explorer) and basic computer functions such as printing and email
- sufficient computer skills and programme knowledge to answer queries
- to be able to effectively communicate and engage with people of all ages, races, cultures and abilities, including LiveArgyll Library staff, other volunteers and members of the public
- be reliable and responsible
- have patience to support people who are learning something new
- be flexible and be able to help on a regular basis
